Sled Dogs As Therapy was started by Shane Kennedy – A Personal Trainer and Martial Arts coach who has been working in mental health since 2007. He specialized in providing physical activity in a mental health setting. He is also a serious dog nut. Hence he became a dog trainer and sled dog handler. He has a vast amount of experience training & working sled dogs and giving training tips and care advice to snow dog owners.
The original idea for the organisation developed after seeing an interview with a disabled military veteran with PTSD. He was given an assistance dog that turned his world around. The thing that struck home was when he said “It’s the first person that I have been able to trust”. From working and training snow dogs, Shane knows the clearly powerful, emotive reaction that these dogs have on
people. This organisation was developed from that moment to provide another way of working these magnificent animals
whilst benefiting the community.
